Easter Inspired Sewing

Hello Everyone!

I really like the pastel colours of Easter. This year I have made a wallhanging using the pattern and tutorial from the blog Inspired by Fabric.

Tulip Time by Inspired by Fabric

I wanted to make something that I can use for Easter and also for spring since I live in the southern hemisphere. I made this piece using scraps from my ever-growing stash of cotton fabrics. It is a lot of fun just to dig through my fabrics and decide what to use for a new project. Of course fabric shopping is fun, but it is very satisfying to find new combinations and make a new project from fabrics that I already have.

There are lots of half square triangles in this project, which makes it very beginner friendly. I have used three different small print pink colours and a yellow stripe for tulips and pinwheels. For leaves and stems, I used two green colours, one small print and one solid. The background is scraps of tone on tone white prints and for binding I used one of the pink colours.

I quilted the wall hanging with straight lines in different directions because it is easy to do and it looks good.

I also like to put some effort into making a quilt label, to make the project my own. On the back of this quilt I used my sewing machine for my initials and year and then I appliquéd an egg shape next to the text. I really enjoy experimenting with quilt labels so much, I could probably do a blog post on that topic alone.

Tumbling Block Quilt Finished

tumbling-22Hello everyone!

The tumbling block quilt I talked about in my last post is finished and ready to be shipped off to Sweden. It measures 47″ x 45″. I saw some pictures made by Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely when I was quite young and was  fascinated by them. When I started to quilt about 10 years later I came across a book called Quilts! Quilts! Quilts! by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes. The book had a pattern that was called Tumbling Blocks and since then I have said I was going to make one. That was 20 years ago. Read More

Minky Quilt

Minky Quilt I
Hello Everyone,

Last year I made quilt in minky fabric for my daughter, on her request. We found two lovely pieces of minky fabric at a craft show that we bought just because they were wonderful, soft and the right colours. We got it out again last week because the nights are getting a bit chilly here in Melbourne this time of the year. Read More

Card Trick Quilt Block

Hello Everyone,

One of my favourite quilt blocks is the the Card Trick block. My second wall hanging I did nearly 20 years ago was a big card trick block with a few borders around it. I won’t show you that one, but I made a wall hanging with four smaller card trick blocks a few years ago, that one I have no problem showing you.
