A New Year and A New Pencil Case

Happy New Year Everyone,

I hope you have had a good holiday season. Hopefully you got a break and were able to catch up with some family or friends, or maybe both.
A new year can also be a fresh start.
Here in Australia it is summer holidays at the moment and a new school year starts at the end of January for most kids.

So my first project on the blog for 2019 is a very easy pencil case project.

The Alex Bag

Hello Everyone!

Winter is finally coming to an end here in Australia, even if it is still a bit cool here in Melbourne, spring is here.

I have designed this cross body bag for my daughter’s best friend Alex, she will be 18 in a couple of weeks and wanted a roomy cross body bag in red velvet for her birthday. It measures 9″ x 13″ x 4″ excluding the strap. I have made the strap, zipper panel and the edges on the double welt pocket in dark brown pleather. The front of the bag has a pocket across the bag that’s divided into two sections.

On the back of the bag is the zippered double welt pocket.

The zipper panel is recessed and have zipper tabs in both ends.

The lining of the bag is made of quilting cotton and has one pocket with a zipper and one without.

Usually I use iron on interfacing and iron on fleece, which doesn’t work very well with the velvet since it will melt. So I used 1/8″ thick felt as interlining, it worked very well.

Until next time, happy sewing and take care!

Annika

New Backpack PDF Sewing Pattern in my Etsy Shop

Hello Everyone!

Backpack 11

I have a new PDF sewing pattern in my Etsy  shop. It is for a backpack that I have had a lot of fun putting together.

I made one in denim and faux leather/pleather and one in quilting weight cotton with a marvel print and cotton drill fabric. The lining fabric is also quilting weight cotton and you only need 7/8 yd. each of the main fabric and lining fabric and only 1/3 yd. of the contrast fabric/faux leather. I have used thin iron on batting for stability. The only hard ware you need is 2 D-rings or square rings, 2 sliders and a magnetic button. You also need 2 zippers and a drawstring cord.
